Reading 5B

We started reading the novel Hatchet this week.  Vocabulary and Comprehension Tests will be Friday.

Language - Unit Test on  2 and 3 Tuesday.  Students were given a study guide last week.
Wednesday we begin Unit 4 - Punctuation in sentences - apostrophe, quotation marks, and colons.

Homeroom News

Check folders today for information about the candy fundraiser that begins today.

Varsity Cheerleaders are selling chances to "Cheer for a Quarter" at the Chambers Ballgame on Oct. 3.  Chances cost $1 each.

Reading 5B

This week we will be reading the "Heavenly Zoo" pages 136 - 141.  We will discuss genre, vocabulary and meaning, inferences, and predictions.

The comprehension and vocabulary test will be Friday.

Please encourage your child to continue to read their AR books.  We still have a few students that have not met their goals yet.

Spelling Test this Friday

We have completed Unit 2 in Language.  This was a very short unit.  We should complete Unit 3 this week.  It is also short.  We plan to combine Units 2 and 3 together and test next Tuesday, September 30.  I will send a study guide home later in the week.

Language/Spelling 6A & 6B

We are reviewing the 5 rules of capitalization along with common and proper nouns.

There will be no Spelling Test this week.

We are nearing the end of Unit 2 in Language.  We are reviewing common and proper nouns, capitalization, and singular and plural nouns.  I will give the students a study guide days before the test.

Reading 5B

Due to the Grandparent's Day Program, we will not have a reading story this week.  We will be working on reading skills- main idea, context clues, and drawing conclusions.

Remember to visit the Bookfair in the Library after the Grandparent's Day Program.

Grandparent's Day Program will be Friday, September 19.  K-4 through 4th grade program begins at 10:00.  5th/6th grade program begins at 11:00 in the Cafetorium.

Dress for the program-  Boys khaki pants; red, white, or blue polo type shirt.
Girls- Dress -Patriotic colors (theme of program)

Pep Rally

The theme for the Pep Rally this week will be "Muddy Up Monroe".  Dress for Friday denim jeans or shorts, plaid shirt, and boots. The football game starts at 7:00 pm at school.
