End of the Year Party

The $13 for the End of the Year Party needs to be turned in tomorrow, May 13.  I need 3 drivers for Friday.  Please let me know if you would be willing to drive. The party will be at Xtreme from 8:30 to 12:30.  Drivers may drop students off at 8:30 and pick up at 12:30, if they are unable to stay.  Also, the Powder Puff game is at 1:30  that afternoon.  The cost is $2.  The following is a list of foods the students signed up to bring to the party.  Just let me know if you need to make a change.

The Elementary Honor's Program will be Wednesday, May 13, at 9:00.  1st - 5th grades will be recognized.

Field Day

Field Day is May 12 from 1 - 3:00 for 1st through 6th grades.  Snacks and drinks will be available for $1 per item.  Students need to wear sunscreen and clothing that can get wet.

End of the Year Party

Our end of the year party will be May 15, from 8:30 - 12:30 at Xtreme.  The cost is $13 per student.  This will cover the cost of the gym, pizza and drinks.  We will have a sign up sheet for other food to be brought by the students.  The Powder Puff game will be at 1:30 on the same day.  Admission will be $2.

Huntsville Field Trip

May 11  is the Huntsville  Field Trip.  Please be at school by 5:00 am. We will have sausage biscuits on the bus for everyone.  Please bring your own drink.  You have already paid for lunch.  You will need money for dinner that night and if you wish to buy a souvenir from the gift shop.  We should return home by 9:00 pm.

Recycling Contest

The 5th Grade won the recycling contest.  We collected over 300 pounds of plastic.  Thanks to all the parents for their help with this project.  Also, a special thanks to Mr. Robert Jacobs for his help.

Language- This week begins our research writing project.  Unit 6 - (pages 88 - 109) provides examples for each step in writing a research paper.  I gave the students an information page with due dates.  3- 3x5 Bibliography Cards are due this Friday, April 24, in students folder.

The purpose for this activity is for students to become familiar with the steps in writing a research paper.  (They will soon be jr. high students.)  Please don't stress.  we will work on this together.

Reminders

The field trip to the performance of "Frozen" is Friday, March 6.  We plan to leave around 9:30 and return to school around 2:30.  We will eat lunch in Dothan, so you will need to send extra money with your child. Students need to dress nicely.

This week is "Read Across America".  The Fifth Grade students may participate in the dress themes for each day. Monday-Favorite Dr. Seuss character; Tuesday- Silly socks; Wednesday- Tacky clothing within dress code; Thursday- Grinchiest  Green Day wear green; Friday - Red and White Day(Cat in the Hat).  Students may also participate in a poster contest about your favorite Dr. Seuss book. Posters must be turned in by 9:00 Thursday.

Yearbooks are on sale now through March 13.  The cost is $50.  No extras will be ordered.

School will dismiss at 11:50 on Friday, March 13 due to the Jonah McWaters baseball tournament.

The Honor's Assembly for the third nine weeks will be Friday, March 20 at 9:00.

We still have a few students that have not met their AR goal.  March 13 is the last day to reach your goal for this nine weeks.  Please encourage your child to read.

Spring Break will be March 23-27.

Field Trip - Frozen

We have a field trip on Friday, March 6, to see the Southeast Alabama Dance Company perform FROZEN.  Student tickets are $7 and chaperone tickets are $23 each.  We need 4 drivers. Valentine's Party

Our Valentine's party will be Friday.  We will have a buffet style lunch with finger foods.  Students may bring their drink or purchase it in the cafetorium.  The students have started a list of what they would like to bring.  We have 14 students and I will send a name list home today.

Spelling - The 6th grade started a new novel this week.  Their next Spelling Test will be Feb. 11.

Reminders

The SGA is selling cookie dough.  You should have received an order form.  Orders need to be turned in by Feb. 11.

Children's Hospital is having a King and Queen Contest.  Students in K4-6th grade will be participating.  You may collect pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters,or dollars.  The boy that collects the most money will be crowned King and the girl with most will be Queen.  Deadline to turn in money is Feb. 12.

The EXCEL Club is having a shoe drive for children in need.  They are accepting new or slightly used shoes you've outgrown or don't need.  They will be collecting until Feb. 27.

Grades 7-12 will be dismissed at 12:00 on Thursday to attend the basketball games.

The Spring Softball Clinic is Feb. 7 for girls in grades K-6. Contact Coach Park if you would like to register.

The booklets, to be completed with names and addresses, need to be turned in no later than tomorrow.  The school will receive $5.50 for everyone turned in and be placed in a drawing for $100,000 worth of playground equipment.

Field Trip

The 5th and 6th grade classes are planning a trip to the McWane Science Center in Birmingham on April 7, 2015.  The cost is $42 for students and $37 for adults. This does include bus fare, but not the cost for lunch.  If you would like to be one of the chaperones, please let me know.

Storytelling Festival

The Fifth and Sixth Grade students have been invited to attend the Storytelling Festival at Troy University this Friday, January 30.  We will travel to and from the University on our bus.  We will leave campus between 10:25 - 10:45 and return by 1:00.

We are going to see A Bear Called Paddington  at Continental Cinema in Troy on January 23, 2015.  Movie tickets will be $6.50.  Please send this money by Wednesday, January 21, 2015.  Students may bring money to buy concessions at the movie.  We will eat lunch in Troy after the movie.  Your child will also need money to cover the cost for their lunch.  Please let me know if you would like to drive.
