Reminders

We return to school January 5, 2015.

Honor's Assembly January 9 at 8:30.  We will have a regular school day after the assembly.

Class Christmas Party

The 5th Grade Christmas Party will be Wednesday, December 17, at lunch.  Each student needs to bring $3 for pizza. They are also signing up for other snacks and candy for the party.  We are going to play Dirty Santa.  Price range for gifts $10-$15.

Also, thanks for all you do.  The BBQ baskets looked great last week!

PTO Christmas Store

The PTO Christmas Store will be in the cafetorium December 11, from 7:15 -2:00 and Dec. 12 from 7:15 - 1:00.

Band Concert

The Band will have a concert tonight at 6:30 in the cafetorium.

Reminders

The Christmas Lunch in the cafetorium will be December 16.  A form is in your child's folder. Our class will eat at 12:10.

The school PTO will meet December 16 at 6 pm.

School will dismiss at 11:50 on December 18 and 19.

We are reading "The Land That I Lost" pages 232- 241.  Students already have the Vocabulary List for this week.  We are reading in class and working on the study guide in class.

Our story this week is "The Book That Saved the Earth" page 218 in our Reading book.  We are reading in class.  The students already have the vocabulary words.  The test will be Friday.

Patriot Marketplace

The Patriot Marketplace will December 4 and 5 from 7:30am to 6:00pm both days.  The 5th grade is responsible for BBQ items for a gift basket for silent auction.  These items need to be turned in by Dec. 1.

4-H Christmas Ornament

The Christmas Ornament  for 4-H is due this Thursday, November 20.

Thanksgiving Holiday

We will dismiss November 21 at 12:00.  This is due to Pike hosting the AISA State Football Championship games.  We will be out the week of November 24 - 28 for Thanksgiving.  We return to school on December 1.

Dismiss Early November 21

Pike will host the championship football games at Troy University on November 21.  Many of the faculty and staff will have to help with this event. School will be dismissed at 12:00 on that day.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

The SGA  has started their Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection.  Families are encouraged to pack  a shoebox or a plastic box from Dollar Tree.  Determine if your gift is for a boy or girl and age group 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.  Label this on top of the box.  Fill the box with small toys, crayons, pencils, coloring books, picture books, toothbrush, and other such items.  The following things are not allowed: chocolate, candy, toy guns, military men, knives, liquids, medication, vitamins, breakable items, glass containers,or aerosol cans.  You may include a personal note.  Please enclose $7 for the shipping cost.  All boxes must be turned in by Nov. 15.

Veteran's Day Breakfast and Program - November 7

The Veteran's Day breakfast  will be in the library from 8:45 - 9:25 on Friday. Any parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, brother, or sister that have served in the armed forces are invited.  The program will begin at 9:30 in the cafetorium.  All parents, grandparents , and veterans are invited to the program.

You may check your child out after the program, and they will not be counted absent.

School will DISMISS at 1:30 so that students and faculty may travel to Bessemer for the playoff game.

Tickets are on sale in the main office for the first round of the playoff games.  The Patriots will play Bessemer Academy there November 7.  Adult tickets are $7 and students $5.  All pre-sold ticket proceeds will stay at PLA.

Halloween Party

5th Grade will be having a Halloween Party at lunch Thursday.  We are providing pizza, snacks, and drinks with money left over from the float expenses.

Spirit Day at Hardee's

PLAS will host a Spirit Day on Friday from 4am to 11pm!  PLAS will receive 20% of all pre-tax purchases.Cut out the coupons that went home yesterday, and present these when paying for your purchase.

Reminder BBQ Plates

Orders are due today for the BBQ sandwiches.  These will be served after the parade Thursday night.

Homecoming Pep Rally

The Pep Rally Thursday night has an admission fee of $1.  Admission is free for children under school age. The theme is Halloween , so it may be scary to some younger children.  Younger children may want to be accompanied by an adult.

Reminder- Field Trip

Our Field Trip to Renfroe Farm will October 28 (tomorrow).  We will go on the bus.  I know that is decade day for homecoming, but I think it would be better to wear your field trip t shirts and jeans. We plan to leave around 8:15.  Food will not be provided.  Students and parents will need to bring a sack lunch and drink.  We should return to school around 1:30.

Fall Festival

The cheerleaders have declared this Friday as "Ace Autauga Day". They are asking students to dress like "nerds" on Friday.

Fall Break will be October 13, 14, and 15.

We have a field trip to the Renfroe Farm on October 28.  It is sponsored by the Alabama Cooperative Extension.  The permission slips went home today.  Please sign and return.

Please let me know if would like to buy individual candy bars.  The price is one dollar.

There will be a Fall Softball Clinic for girls on Nov. 8.  The girls were given a form today.  Please return forms by October 31.

The fall Festival will be October 23.  Fifth and Sixth Grade are responsible for the Country Store.  We need four parents from our class to work 30 minute intervals.  Also, we need items donated such as arts and crafts, baked goods, and other novelty type items.  Please let me know if you will be able to help out.

Homecoming is October 31.

Reading 5B

Begin reading S. O. R. Losers pages 66-81.  This story is longer than our last two stories.  This is also a short week, so we will not test this Friday.  I will give out vocabulary and a study guide later this week.  We will test next Friday.

5B Reading      This week we will read "The Marble Champ"  pages 36 - 47.  Comprehension and Vocabulary Test will be Friday.   Also, students may campaign for our election.  Voting will be this Friday.


5A and 5B Language    We will identify State of Being Verbs and Helping Verbs.  New Spelling words will go home today.  Spelling and dictation test on Friday.

6A and 6B  Language     We will identify compound subjects and compound verbs and begin to diagram sentences.  Spelling and dictation test on Friday.
